Black Wolf
huh what?
Helix Quark
read what? I can't read any message.
and who the hell is this hawk person?
MontyL
A young fella on BKM, Helix. I guess he was wondering just how many folks use this room...
Helix Quark
what young fellow? I didn't see any post from some young fellow on BKM. In fact, I'm quite certain that it wasn't there when I read it.
MontyL
Heh heh... Got the sillies, Helix? :)
Bookworm
I can't read so I didn't see it either. :)
Freejack
why don't we use this room? or is it that bbs's don't develop? :)
Helix Quark
wHo Me? SiLlY? NaH, nEvEr. NoPe!
MontyL
If only he'd log back in, and see just how many people can't see him... :)
Helix Quark
see _WHO_?!
I wish I had an idea which post I read that I can't actually see you all are talking about.
Megamol
see what??? what are you guys talking about...I don't see anything....
JayDee
well, they aren't going to develop T&A, so forget that one...
Helix Quark
I think this is more for ideas like doors and things that sysops can do to develop interesting boards ...
so it's less the programming and less the users as it is for people to suggest ways to make the boards better.
or something like that ...
ZooKeeper
aww, you guys!
thanks, I needed a silly infusion (kid's bedtime... sigh...)
JayDee
well, hell, let the population of the board do-it, if you are into that
some boards have actually come to resemble what their name is...
whether or not that is an accomplishment is an individual point of view
but, I think it is actually kinda-cool, in the instance I'm thinking of...
She-who-Knows would give me a dirty look and a derisive snort, and launch
into some completely psychotic tirade, if she ever heard this...
and she probably will, because she is a spy
and her spies are everywhere
and I know who they are
they can go sit on buttplugs, too
woo
Black Wolf
As I have not yet seen an actuall Citadel+/065 I have no proof that this BBS develops
Helix Quark
who silly? me silly?
JayDee
I can neither confirm, nor deny...
Bookworm
Of course not Helix. No one is ever silly. ;>
ZooKeeper
I know, but I ain't tellin... };>
Livia
you can call one of the 65 alphas, black wolf
Helix Quark
mythical beasts abound.
Helix Quark
Don't tell. that'd spoil the fun.
ZooKeeper
no one is silly unless given half a chance.
or maybe less.
Bookworm
less ZK, a lot less. ;>
FRuG
I didn't see it either.
Alpha Wolf
mythical 065's abound. ;)
Livia
65 alpha sites that you can call:
tat
the raft
amber
memory alpha
slumberland
cave bear's laire, until it goes down
possibly a couple of others
whoop
ZooKeeper
bw -- true, how true that is!
Bookworm
Of course ZK. I ought to know as I am one of them.
golden spud
If anybody talked about any ideas they had for anything that would develop a BBS, John would pop up and call it vaporware.
happy
What happens to jello when it gets eaten?
scorpio
of course vulgar displlay of power is a test site as well..
but it's closed access now so it doesn't really matter..
StraitJacket
This is a 65 site too.
Counselor
SJ, how well does 65 run? Have you encountered any bugs?
Helix Quark
this is _not_ a test site, so don't bother.
Saint Bob
Shit, it's half-public already. Out with it, gang!
John
About two months ago, John himself lead a detailed conversation on the most expedient way to port GremCit into a multiuser environment. He just didn't brag about actually *having* anything, or try to take credit for things that didn't exist.
So it's apparent that you still don't get it. Talk about features? Sure. Kick around ideas for multithreading and the like? Absolutely. Brag about "puttin' that into SpudCit just as soon as I get some free time!" Bzzzz, wrong answer. You're failing to separate the ego game from the technical one.
John
(Actually, you shut up about it for quite a while, and I was happy.)
I'm still awaiting your source.
Brent Bottles
When software has a high chance of having bugs, it is best to distribute it to only a few people for two reasons: fewer people to have to coordinate bug-fixing with, and those people who experience the bugs are aware of the likelihood of encountering a bug, so they do not get as annoyed when they find a bug. (gee... if you don't want to find a bug, then don't run test software.)
As the likelihood of there being bugs in the software drops, the circle of the limited distribution grows.
Helix Quark
but, brent, that makes _SENSE_ ... that might be too much to expect.
golden spud
John> Yes, I did shut up about it for a while. Oh, I'm SO SORRY for opening my big mouth again.
Anyways, I have my own room now, and you have your old SpudCit source that you can give me comments on.
So you can do what you originally wanted to do (give me a critique) and I can say whatever I want in there, and you don't have to see it.
FRuG
John, this is called 'The free flowing atmosphere of ideas'. Once an idea surfaces it's head over and over again. People offer to implement it, such as SpudCit/Golden Spud, discussion grows on the best way of implementation. People dabble at approachs, program code, post code, post problems and idea blocks, and the process continues. I bet you the first board with the FIRST working implementation, gets the credit. It's called a Market Economy, ya know! :-P
John
Where have you send SpudCit source?
Brent Bottles
SpudCit source is in the Citadel + Apps] room in the Root hall of The Raft (206 861 9936).
A non-trivial amount of work seems to have gone into it, and it is mostly original.
I did not look at it close enough to see if there are any design flaws or bugs. And most of the functions in it cannot be called, so I couldn't just run it to look for problems.
Well, other than that the configuration program just blindly assumes that you are in an 80x25 screen mode.
And he is using Borland's screen i/o functions, which are not the quickest.
And at least one of the file write functions returns a value of 0 if successful and -1 if not (i like 1 if successful and 0 if not myself, but this is minor), but it does not actually check the return value from fwrite() to see if the write succeeded: the only check is whether he has opened the file (which i think is stored in a global variable, or something). if you are going to give a function the appearance that it has error checking in it by giving it a return value to indicate error, you really ought to have it check all of the errors that are possible (or at least likely).
i'll probably give it a better look in the upcoming week.
Livia
spudcit source has been uploaded to the raft
Helix Quark
woo, even.
they're beginning to come out of the woodwork.
JayDee
or distract you from sending me more net garbage from SOD, you sod...
John
Ok, the code has been transferred here now. I'll take a look at it when I have an opportunity. Perhaps it will help me through my homosexuality, or my uselessness crisis.
JayDee
ants?
Captain James T Kirk
SFA would be a 65...but i can't get 65 to run on my hardware... <grumble>...
Helix Quark
don't count on it.
Lab Rat
<snicker> You guys should stop reading mail.
naughty naughty.
time to get out ol' pgp I guess.
John
Transparent PGP. Would be cool.
golden spud
brent> thanks for the source code review. Some of the reasons that you stated are some of the reasons that I'm rewriting the dang thing -- I didn't organize the little things enough, I think (like return values, and error correction).
I'm not going to put all of the responsibility on OOP, but I think OOP will make it a little easier to separate everything.
It'll also let me giggle with joy when I type room += message;
I am running C+/65 for my boards right now, and I like it a lot better than 64.2... thank you very much for releasing a public test version. I hope you don't mind if I emulate some of the cosmetic things (like the extremely verbose debugging info, and the room/msgtable viewer in .S)
And I'll try not to word my messages in the future as "SpudCit _will_" -- I'll say "I think it'd be good for Cit to do..." so as to not piss off certain users.
I'll save the "will" stuff until AFTER it's been implemented :)
Freejack
what kind of hardware you got there Capt!?
