If you're using DOS, you have a ceiling. 640k!
#171857 54 Fri Oct 14 15:00:09 1994 [slowly] bob smith [becoming] @ MixEd ReaLity, MerpVille
Not entirely true...I am using memmaker and am running with around 830k right now.

And when you type MEM, DOS tells you that you have more than 640k of low memory? With EMM386.SYS, I don't think so. There are programs that can tweak your system, but DOS doesn't come with 386Max.

Using OS/2, I can give a DOS box 736K of real memory just by limiting the screen mode to CGA.

that's how the memory managers do it in regular dos. the nifty thing about os/2 of course is that you can have several VDM's with totally different settings ...

With OS/2, you can do anything you want.
#174235 54 Thu Oct 20 09:20:06 1994 [No More Words] ZooKeeper [No More Promises...] @ The Zoo, Bellingham, USA/WA/WHATCOM

#176701 54 Sun Oct 23 17:32:08 1994 [-*] Slayer [*-] @ MixEd ReaLity, MerpVille
But the more VDMs you have the slower your machine gets. I like OS/2 apps. You can run as many as you want, and your machine doesn't slow down.
