LM: can't help anyone with anything, it seems. LM: the light at the end of the tunnel really is a freight train.

A few days ago a voice from behind me said "Rico?" "Sgt Joe Rico?" It turned out to be one of my troops from 20 years ago. I couldn't tell who he was at first because of the shaved head but the voice and features were familiar, I'd thought it was one of the regular patients who traverse in and out of the hospital where I work. "Dad!" He said to the gentleman besides him "This was my Sargeant in the Air Force back in Ellsworth Air Force Base. The one I told you about that partied with us all night and then busted our balls the very next morning (grinning with obvious pride)" Steve Fiala was still tall at 6'4" but looked tired. "How are you man, where are you staying, what are you doing here!" I said hardly beleaving my eyes as old memories came rushing back. "I've got cancer. The doctors don't think I'm going to make it. I'll be up in the Bone Marrow Unit for the next four months if I live through it man. I will though. Nothing's going to stop me." The look on his Dad's face and Steve's current condition told me that we are about to take a long precious journey together and I'm going to be there for him no matter what it takes.
