For those with sound cards, I have a huge selection of .MOD files I might easily share. Some nice music. Also have some utilities for creation of same.

Hi, Whip. How are you doing?

Any chance you could post a list, Whip? I've got quite a pile up here, too, but... the more the merrier!

#170401 54 Fri Oct 7 23:16:56 1994 Don Glover the younger @ Blind Man's Bluff, Kirkland, WA, USA
what do you need to play a mod file? I have 3 machines with 3 different mediavision cards, a thunder board, a pro spectrum and a pro sonic.
#170402 54 Fri Oct 7 23:29:38 1994 [This] Whippersnapper [is never whipped...] @ Blind Man's Bluff, Kirkland, WA, USA
Don, you need a DAC type sound card, like the Sound Blaster, SB Pro, Gravis or any of the compatibles. The Pro Audio Spectrum should do it. Don't know what those others are.
#170543 54 Sun Oct 9 12:18:50 1994 MontyL @ Black Mountain, Kendall, US/WA/Whatcom
Don, the ThunderBoard is SB compatible, isn't it? Your best bet for a sound player would be DualModulePlayer (DMP), which supports most of the sound cards out there. I use a ProAudio 16 card, and it supports it just great. If it weren't for the path, I'd send a copy to Counselor for you...

I tried that, san san. I'll probably buy it before long... it shuts down on you after 30 days and won't re-install. The clever bastards know they have the best product of its kind! Gotta admire 'em. They want to be paid for their handiwork. It's definitely first-rate. Got Version 2?

Yes, MOD4WIN version 2. I haven't had it for over thirty days yet, so I don't know if it will shut down or not.

Two wonderful sets of news, in one room... san san> Where'd you find it? I've been using WinMOD Pro for a while, but have to keep the rates down so that it'll play fairly well.

#171726 54 Wed Oct 12 18:58:31 1994 Richard Seitz @ MixEd ReaLity, MerpVille
Hey Whip, there might be a way around that. Check for a hidden file and if so rename it and see what happens. Or you could always reset your system clock but that gets old quick. Are you sure you can't reinstall? I don't know how a program could prevent that.
#171724 54 Thu Oct 13 02:51:14 1994 san san @ Global Workshop, 3rd Stone from the Sun, WA USA
Well, I would, but after setting up PFTUI on this side I realized that we are limited to somewhere about 250K/file per send/recieve via PFTUI. MOD4WIn is about 1.2K, so that won't work. Sorry.

re:mod4win It's getting real close to a month that I have had it installed. I'll check the date/time on my system at work where I have it installed. Hey wait. I have it installed here. Lemme go look... Ok, the directory it's installed in is dated 09-28-94. Not quite that month/30 days that someone mentioned earlier. There was a post about changing a value in win.ini under the [Compatability] field called EUPHORIA=0x212034e. There is a really annoying shareware notice that is supposed to go away when changing this value to . . . Well, I don't have the new vaule here. It's at work and I garnished the info from an InterNet post. I tried the new value and nothing happened. What do you want for nothing, heh! Really though, I'll keep you posted.
#171854 54 Fri Oct 14 22:09:52 1994 san san @ Global Workshop, 3rd Stone from the Sun, WA USA
Whip, that sounds like way too much work. It is better to pay them for their fine program, I agree. Now where's that hidden file you were talking of? I didn't see any hidden files in the directory mod4win is installed in. I also checked my system directories and didn't see any unusual hidden files that are generated by my operating system(running windows 94 here).
#171852 54 Sat Oct 15 00:38:05 1994 MontyL @ Black Mountain, Kendall, US/WA/Whatcom
Tell you what, Whip. The MOD4WIN and what you spoke of would keep me busy for a little while. Much appreciated, believe me! FILE69? FILE69.BMB = [ FILE69.LNZ = [ FILE69.BKM = [ Files being sent ]]]. Zip the files into .BKM, Zip .BKM into .LNZ, and Zip .LNZ into .BMB. Really slick, and if you use it a lot (like we do up here) you create a batch file to do the whole process, like this one (MAKEWLF.BAT): @echo off echo Creating FILE69 packet for The Wolf Den... choice Continue if errorlevel 2 goto quit echo Creating WLF packet... pkzip -ex file69.wlf %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9 echo Moving WLF packet into LNZ packet... pkzip -exmu c:\cit\trans\file69.lnz file69.wlf echo Completed. goto end :quit echo Aborted... :end By entering "makewlf this.fil that.fil other.fil", all three get sent, via LNZ, since I'm not directly connected with .WLF (yet). It beats doing it by hand every time.

Hmmm, scoured the drives last night(dir /s /ah)and didn't come up with any unusual files. Yeah, split&join work ok. I'm too lazy to actually do that though. :^)
#172459 54 Sun Oct 16 09:52:16 1994 [This] Whippersnapper [is never whipped...] @ Blind Man's Bluff, Kirkland, WA, USA
San san, try "dir /a". It'll show all files of all attributes. I'm not sure, but think that file was a System and Hidden type. In about a minute here, I'll be uploading 6 or 7 .MOD files and a copy of MOD4WIN version 2... Oh, yeah. I also have a lot of Scream Tracker modules and Scream Tracker ]|[ Beta. It's a decent player for any sort of MOD, of course, as well as a high-powered tracker. And I have Music Disk Player, a good MOD and Scream Tracker player by Future Crew. None of the Scream Tracker stuff will run under Windows, BTW.

Oops... Sorry to hear that, GS. Thanks for the info on the CD. Guess I'd better call BMB, huh Whip? Thanks! ;) Oh... WinMod Pro handles Scream Tracker modules _very_ well, IMO. And, other than the fact that ST3 Beta doesn't like my ProAudio 16 card (keeps trying to use it as a mono, 8-bit SoundBlaster, which _does_ work...), it's a pretty neat program!
