#35 52 Sat Feb 15 23:05:33 1992 [Yes it's true...] Spur [50 watts are MINE!]
and why the fuck isn't audin speaking?
#1198 52 Sun Feb 16 05:17:37 1992 Captain James T Kirk
This room is for talking about the phone company trying to charge sysop's Busness rates... I'll move a post form the WAN Admin sysop room in here...

Well, that sucks
#1566 52 Tue Feb 18 13:37:53 1992 [Brand X] Scorpion [Title/Surname]
Actually, If there were no files, it would be considered socializing and therefore be at a local rate.
#1591 52 Tue Feb 18 17:23:33 1992 [call GEIL BBS...] TUNA [...at 943-2136]
Well, if they do that, you can kiss GEIL goodbye...I can't afford any extra money...
#1624 52 Tue Feb 18 18:45:25 1992 Isis
I doubt it would take affect that soon anyway, probably long after you leave.
#1716 52 Wed Feb 19 14:40:41 1992 Captain James T Kirk
Yup, SFA would die too... There's no way i could afford a buseness line.
#1719 52 Wed Feb 19 14:43:06 1992 [call GEIL BBS...] TUNA [...at 943-2136]
yeah, that's true...
#1812 52 Wed Feb 19 21:05:21 1992 bill
They want you to quit. Then they can charge us all for the services you are providing free. Isn't that nice?
#1886 52 Thu Feb 20 09:04:08 1992 [call GEIL BBS...] TUNA [...at 943-2136]
oh, yeah...sure is...
#1916 52 Thu Feb 20 13:53:41 1992 [Brand X] Scorpion [Title/Surname]
Actually, what would happen if all the Cit sysops filed a complaint or something like that. Have the regular users come in. I seriously doubt that they could argue that a bunch of high school students are a buisness
#1933 52 Thu Feb 20 15:47:06 1992 Nicodemus
Well heck, if they ever did try to pull something slimy as that, you could put on a big advertising camaing on the boards to to have users write the judge letters, show up at the court hearing, etc.. If it worked, you could get an overwhelming amount of support of the side of the sysops. Douglas McAurther once said that if the people lead, eventualy the government will follow.
#1969 52 Thu Feb 20 19:32:58 1992 Isis
I'd be willing to go on the line if they wanted to charge buisness rates to someone like audin, or John...that would be really unfair...
#2036 52 Fri Feb 21 12:37:01 1992 Captain James T Kirk
Yup. I agree. But, it can happen... the people in New York came >THIS< close to having to pay a TAX on EVERY download... I don't just mean d/l's of copywrited stuff, but, FREEWARE too... But, there was a big outcry from the bbs comunity that stoped it.
#2380 52 Fri Feb 21 23:19:56 1992 [Brand X] Scorpion [Title/Surname]
I think there was a comentary in a Phrack about that. A message base is a file and when oyu read it, your d/ling a file.
#2390 52 Sat Feb 22 00:28:17 1992 Captain James T Kirk
Yup, that was one of the arguments agenst it...
#2771 52 Tue Feb 25 18:57:18 1992 [Brand X] Scorpion [Title/Surname]
That and it would be illegal to charge money for a PD program.
#2795 52 Tue Feb 25 20:23:32 1992 Italian Stallion
There's nothing wrong with chargin' money for anything. Of course the point is to not let'em charge you anything if at all possible.
#2966 52 Wed Feb 26 20:38:05 1992 [Brand X] Scorpion [Title/Surname]
Legally, you cannot charge money for a PD program without permission from it's author. But since when has anyone here paid attention to copyright laws?
#3001 52 Wed Feb 26 23:12:50 1992 Italian Stallion
Island Records did.
