Captain James T Kirk
Cool bbs...

Italian Stallion
Nonononoonnonononoonononononononononoononono!
Captain James T Kirk
Shut up..
Captain James T Kirk
Hmm.. maybe i should net this room... after all, i already have a Columbia Crest BBS room...
Captain James T Kirk
Net Test....
stderr
Is there any way to net with a board without asking for permission from that board?
Captain James T Kirk
Hmm.. not really, you need to use a network account... But, the rooms that you try to net don't have to be Networked rooms, it'll go one-way if there just regular rooms...
Steve Baxter
You would at least need sysop access so you could give your BBS's account "node" status. Then your BBS could call and request rooms. As long as your BBS had access (through groups) to the rooms, it would read them. So you could probably net one-way. (It might not work without an entry in the nodes.cit file. I don't know. I never tested that.)
Spur
audin, why don't you net one way? The only reason you gave for netting was so that messages from your board reached the other boards, and most people prefer posting and reading from the rooms here on CC.
stderr
I guess, Steve, that I would like to finally get a version of Cit up and running and use it to download ALL the messages and read them offline and then respond. It would be a cool type of offline reader. Actually, it looks like it wouldn't work very well because I could just have two way netting without turning all your rooms into net rooms. It would probably be pretty simply to add what I'm talking about to the code..... Just think about how we'd never have a busy signal on the cits.... (well, almost never)
Captain James T Kirk
God, ALL the rooms??? Geez, it takes about 5 minutes to d/l 60k worth of messages, then about TEN for the thing to incorporate those messages into the Message base... But, after the first net, there's useally only about 1/2K per room..
stderr
Audin, I'm talking about making an offline reader that is using the networking ability of the Cit program. I would need all the messages I normally looked at. It would seem that it's not too long to read them online, so it wouldn't be too long to download them.
Is there some way to get the cit program to pre-build the message filee that you download when you network?
tuna
Call........GEIL BBS.....at 943-2136!!!!!!!! Its probably got some problems, but it IS a CIT!!!!!
Steve Baxter
Good ideas, stderr. I will write to the programmers.
Captain James T Kirk
That would be cool... An off line message reader is one thing citadel lacks...
Steve Baxter
The best way is to use a Citadel and net with the board you want to read.
Captain James T Kirk
That'd be the easest... you would have to get the sysop to edit there nodes.cit file though...
stderr
Well, that is the problem now but if the code was changed to allow a modified version of a Cit to call up and "net" with every room automagically, that would be neat. Most of what is needed already exists, although acutally getting it to work might not be so easy since I still can't get Dragcit to run and a can't get the source to complie.....
