AHHHH! Where outta BEER!!!
Spur
GO for a walk?!
Isis
I don't like that comercial.
stderr
wolf! wolf!
Roya
i know, it bugs me...
Spur
it's dogist.
Steve Baxter
This nets to California.
Roya
haha
Captain James T Kirk
Hay, Steve, could you net this with SFA? (sorry about all the little one room requests, but, i keep finding little rooms that i would like to, and could net without scrooling my message base.
Steve Baxter
You got it, Cap'n. Let's net some groups, too. What groups do you have to match my local, sysop, and consop (citadel console sysop) groups?
stderr
Well, he's got a lot in sysop....
Captain James T Kirk
Well, I have a Sysop group, it has the sysop net rooms in it. (I do keep normal users out...) The local group is already set up, I get local messages, I don't have a Consop... I could make one though, what do you use that group for?
Captain James T Kirk
And, i need to get a Gay/... and Sysop Assoc room... I haven't gotten around to re-making those after the "NightCit screwup".
tuna
Steve, could I get a copy of your msg.dat and etc.dat files...I'm trying to put up a DragCit, and I keep getting the message: etc.dat and msg.dat files not found. If you know what is going wrong, could you maybe even give me a call at:943-2163...I'd really appreciate it!
Steve Baxter
Citadels create etc.dat when they shut down. It's a file that contains parameters so the Citadel won't have to configure itself. When Citadel starts for the first time the file is missing. So Citadel completely configures itself. This is normal startup procedure. Citadel will create and initialize the msg.dat and configure and then the board will come up. You don't need my files. Citadel will create them.
stderr
Of course it still might now work. I know it doesn't for me. I figured out that you need to delete the etc.dat file or use one of the commandline switchs if you make certain changes in the CONFIG.CIT file.
tuna
really? THAT may be my problem...I'll take a look!
Captain James T Kirk
Yea, deleating the etc.dat will make it read the config.cit, and other *.cit files... Or running Ctdl with the -c peramiter will make it read config.cit too...
stderr
I think that point was made in the short new docs that steve added. People in the know really need to put a little more into the docs for Dragcit..... I'd like to get it so I could compile and change Dragcit but first I just need to get it to run as is....
Captain James T Kirk
Yea, the one thing DCit needs is docs... The setup.doc is pretty pathetic... Hmm... maybe i should write some...
stderr
Well, you better than me..... I mean all I know is the thing doesn't work....
Captain James T Kirk
it DOSE work... but, only if it's set up JUST right... Not ALMOST right, JUST right...
stderr
Well, then I'll bring a machine over and let you mess with it. Prove to me it will work! Put you pudding where you mouth is! Huh?
tuna
mine actually works...except for doors...
tuna
How do you put up an opening message screen...how do bulletins work? I've got so many questions....What format do the files to show before a hall have to be?
Captain James T Kirk
Go into the Help dir with a TEXT editer, and edit every blb file.... Thats where all the little blurbs are, like the hello message, chat message, bulliten, there all there. They all have to be in Ascii.
Okay, bill, bring a computer over... and i'll make it work...
stderr
Ok, I'll find one next week sometime....
Captain James T Kirk
okee...
Captain James T Kirk
and don't show up with an apple or some other shitty thing... That wouden't be funny...
stderr
You mean like a red apple you would pick from a tree? Now, it will be a 286 or 386SX.
Steve Baxter
Bring a machine to the next MUD. We'll have it running within half an hour. On second thought, don't bring a machine to a MUD. At least, not a machine you like.
stderr
I'd bring a machine I didn't like.... Where would you plug in the phone in Denny's???
Captain James T Kirk
JB's.. maybe they have a phone jack somewhere...
Captain James T Kirk
Actually, after the hell i went through getting Fredcit running the first time, after that, things have worked pretty well... Only thing i always forget when i set up a new cit is to make shure there are over 20 file handles... I;ve forgotten that 3 times now...
Steve Baxter
I usually have 40 or more set at all times.
Captain James T Kirk
Yea, for a while i used 50... but, I needed to scrounge ram, so, i took it down to 25, and cut the buffers to 10... I have my mouse driver loded at all times, so, i have to make up a little for the 12k that hogs...
Steve Baxter
Audin>
You like using a mouse? I have 3 of 'em. I never got used to the silly things. Are they special on Tandy? Or do you just like it?
Captain James T Kirk
No, it's just a regular searal mouse... I ,don't exactly LOVE using it, but, it helps alot for Norton Utilies, some games, and my dos menu thingy i use for un-deleating, and killing lots of files... other than that, the mousee just sits there... in the way...
stderr
I either load it from the commandline or put a '?' before it in the Config.sys and choose on bootup (DR DOS). Of course Windows and OS/2 have their own mouse drivers.
Captain James T Kirk
Yea, it's only now, i don't try to multi-task anymore, but, when i was running DESQview, i nuked it.
Captain James T Kirk
Hay, Bill, how much dos mem will DR DOS free up on an 8088 system???
Captain James T Kirk
I've heard it'll help a little on one..
Steve Baxter
I have 601k free after loading the video drivers and memory driver. And I'm still using DOS 3.3.
Captain James T Kirk
How'd you do that? Or are you using 386MAX or something?
Steve Baxter
QEMM. It loads everything high that it can even with the VGA card. I have 40 file handles, 20 buffers, and about 64 handles for fastopen (DOS).
Captain James T Kirk
hmm, cool... I need a 386... yup... gotta get one sometime...
stderr
If you have EMS memory, DR DOS 6.0 is suppose to use it to load stuff high or something like that (even in an 8088).
Captain James T Kirk
Cool, i've been thinking about getting some EMS... how much for about a meg?
stderr
About what the 286 would cost you.....
Captain James T Kirk
okee,forget that...
