Blade Runner
Tell it to the Donner party...
Spur
Is it illegal to eat dead people? If you didn't murder them?
Blade Runner
Hmmm, weird question. I don't know...
Lightning
I don't think it's illegal... It's illegal to KILL them, though...
bill
Did you have them killed for you or are they just road kill?
Blade Runner
I think he's referring to it in a 'road kill' sense...
Chris the Shaych
Illeagal. Mutilation of a corpse. Sorry. (Burp)

Chris> responding to a message about 50 posts ago: The reason I'm always complaining about my IIgs is I plan to go into computer science as a carrer and I've outgrown my current system (ie I can't print half my documents adn the other half require major tweeking of the system softwaer, also there arn't alot of colleges that consider AppleSoft BASIC a seriour programing language. I bopught a pascal package and the instruction maunal that came with the program dosen't work (the 3 line hello program they give you won't work. there are at least 3 bugs per line and that's the begining of the course.) Any computer/terminal will work for modeming, color is a luxuary not a nesscity.
Captain James T Kirk
Thats why i copmplain about my computer, I've out-grown it... I have it doing ABSOUTLY everything it can do. I need something like a 286 or better a 386, Something that has protected mode..
Isis
We ARE getting a 486...gateway is replacing our 386 (it keeps having little probs.) with a 486 at a small cost...don't know exactly what that cost is, but it's little enough that we don't need to worry about it...it'll have something like a 360 or 380 megabit hard drive...
Captain James T Kirk
GEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZ... (megaBYTE you mean...)
Lightning
Probably... Hmmm... Audin correcting someone's spelling? This is a first...
Roya
no, i think it's a second.
Captain James T Kirk
Actually, I'm only correcting the term..
bill
Audin's right to correct when it changes the entire meaning. If they are giving you a 486-xx w/ 360meg hard drive for nominal cost over the 386-xx which you are returning, they are nuts.
Spur
is your grandma taking care of the cost, isis?
deadman
and would she like to take care of me?
Lightning
I'm sure...
bill
I'm sure she would be quite happy to.
Captain James T Kirk
A bit is 8 times smaller than a byte. 8 bit's make up a byte(or, one charicter.)
Spur
a bit is just like one digit or something, isn't it?
Captain James T Kirk
A bit can be eather 1 or 0, one being on, and 0 being off... 8 bit's make up a byte, which is one charicter. (I.e. one letter, number, any charicter.)
Captain James T Kirk
Hay, i just realized something.. The 8088 cpu has a mlti-plexed 8-bit data bus... So, it can only transmit one charicter at a time... Geez... Thats what thay mean by searal prosessor...
what good dose it do to have a 16-bit cpu... with a slow 8-bit data bus... weird...
Spur
so what the fuck are 16 bit graphics?
Lightning
I think it means that a character is more defined because it has an extra 8 bits defining it...
Captain James T Kirk
I beleave 16-bit graphics are just faster than 8-bit, sence with 16 bit, you can send twice as much data to the video card at once. You might also be able to get more colors and shit becouse you have an extra 8 bits to work with... There are only so many combinations of 00001111...
Escherichia
wow, another Fur Sale.
Spur
Is there any way you can get 16 bit graphics for a mac or IBM or tandy or something like that?
bill
16bit graphics could mean two different things. On PC's it means first of that the bus is transfering data 16bits at a time and not 8bits. Obviously you can't do that with an XT. The second meaning is that you are defining the colors on the screen with 16bits (64K possible colors) and not the 8bits you would normally use (for 256 colors). The graphic standard in this area is 24bit color. Some systems have 32bits with 24bits defining the colors (16.3 million colors at once) and the other 8bits left over for graphic information that I would be hard pressed to explain. The Mac's 32bit Quickdraw is sorta both of the meanings. You would have 32bits per pixel and you would be transfering data at 32bit swaths. Kinda hip.
Captain James T Kirk
Hmm, coulden't you actually get 16-bit graphics on an XT by de-multiplexing it?
Spur
So what's it mean on all those video game commercials?
Blade Runner
who knows, who cares... Ughhh!! A computer is better anyway...
Captain James T Kirk
No kidding. I mean, Ooooo.... 16 WHOLE bits... I have a 16 bit computer... A 386 is 32 bits... brother...
bill
The video games are talking about a 16bit CPU. I see no point and would just get a real computer. Then you'd have free games to play and new games for almost forever. With the video games you have to worry that Nintendo will come out with a new one that isn't compatible with the old ones.... But, as I always say: "Whatever wanks your plank"
bill
And if you're female, I say: "Whatever lubes your tube"
deadman
you say many interesting things, there, bill. hm.
Shane
up with interesting things
Shane
down with uninteresting things
Blade Runner
yea, that's it...
Scorpion
I'm in a posting mood right now. Just thought I'd mention that...
Roya
socks socks
bill
So?
Chris the Shaych
Yuck. What a disgusting surname, bill.
