Steve, I told you both times that ACit is in the file UPDATE.ZIP in the room The ACit Test. Was there a problem downloading it?

#40 55 Tue Jan 21 18:12:51 1992 [<*=-] Waxed [-=*>] @ Slumberland, Seattle, US 206 283-6771
No, Twof, you mean "IMNSHO." The other looks like a Japanese word.
#41 55 Wed Jan 22 07:07:20 1992 [Mess with the best] Angela Davis [die like the rest.] @ Amber, Seattle, US WA 206 525 1059
He probably typed IMNSHO. But it's all caps, so it got converted.
#42 55 Wed Jan 22 07:07:45 1992 [Mess with the best] Angela Davis [die like the rest.] @ Amber, Seattle, US WA 206 525 1059
The proper spelling is therefore: IMNSHOx.
#44 55 Wed Jan 22 11:26:33 1992 [paradys] Twoflower @ Milliways, Bainbridge Island, WA/US/(206)842-2419

James: which boards did you call? FrogCit is available on Aldur's Vale, and I can upload it to Mocha and TLC.. I don't usually bother, since (1) I'm too busy at work, and DOS Citadel is just there until I have time to work on something more interesting. but, you can have it, and any other Cit that can be had.

The telco guy said that it was rewired horridly weirdly until he came by & fixed it; it seems to work just fine now :) New net grid by Sunday, I'm carrying the laptop with me until I get it done. Not too much more left to do, I need to go through the captures I made of Other Boards, Networking, and WAN Admin, then it'll all be ready to process...

heh. Slumberland was already back up by the time Twof posted the above message... it just wasn't answering 'cause we were tweaking with the HD. :) Special thanks to Waxed for fixing the line problem before US West could get their act together... we were without voice phone service here as well, it was NOT COOL. With luck the line will STAY fixed, now.

TO SLUMBERLAND'S NET PARTNERS: We are still having trouble with the Slumberland line. It could short out again at any moment. US West will be here on Saturday to fix things. Until then, be aware that Slumberland may be inaccessible for hours at a time. (It'll still be up, so keep trying to reach it... phone service is intermittent.)

#88 55 Wed Feb 12 12:53:32 1992 Livia @ Amber, Bellevue, US WA 206 643 9643
Ahem. For at least a month now, some node has been calling my board, pausing for a minute or two at the login prompt, then spewing out a few characters and immediately dropping carrier. This happens many times a day, and has become somewhat annoying. If any of my net-partners think it might be them, I'd appreciate their trying to track down the cause of it (for instance, force a cron event and watch, if you have that capability).
#95 55 Wed Feb 12 13:45:31 1992 Kaptain K Mart @ The Blue Light Special, in Beautiful Tacoma, Washington

#90 55 Wed Feb 12 14:32:29 1992 [Nothing But] Twoflower @ Milliways, Bainbridge Island, WA/US/(206)842-2419
Not me, Livia. But then again, Milliways doesn't call out. I've had (i'd suppose a node) call, enter it's password/initials, get them wrong (for some reason), then hang up. This has been going on for a long time, though since it doesn't seem to be a major problem, I haven't bothered tracking it down.
#92 55 Wed Feb 12 18:53:00 1992 NightHawk @ Destination: VOID, Kent, USA/WA/KING
maybe everyone is trying to control the net by entering the most frequent or largest messages until all other messages have scrolled from the net, leaving them the only ones with posts. Each other person of course is countering with a similar strategy. My God! Everyone is out to control the net!!!
#83 55 Wed Feb 12 21:16:29 1992 [sysop] Steve Baxter [206-786-9248] @ Columbia Crest BBS, Olympia, US 206 786 9248
Captain Kirk, That was my fault that we lost a few messages. I was in supershell and instead of exiting the shell, I thought I was at DOS. So I used the batch file to start the BBS. It configured itself in it's shell. Before I shut it down and dropped the shell, it called SFA to net. The messages we exchanged during that net were lost.. at least on my end.

CJTK: check to see how high your message count is set in your config.cit file. If there is not enough room in the message base for all the messages allowed by your message count, the tables will continue to see those messages as being there, despite the fact that they are not in the message base. This can sometimes happen with new messages as well, for some unknown reason, their location in the message base gets lost by the table. Try a reconfig (delete the ect.dat file). If that doesn't get rid of the problem, set your message count lower or increase the size of your message base. If this doesn't work, then it's not any of the problems I have encountered. :)

Atlas ran with no problems, for me. All of the Cits I tried ran with no problems, once I fixed the little human screwups. There is one thing that I noticed about Atlas. It chews up memory. If you set the #MAXFILES too high (this is the maximum number of files Cit/Atlas will see in a directory), the program will run out of memory when allocating the number of slots specified. If this happens (too many slots are specified, and not enough memory to cover them), the users will not be able to see directories, and networking will also bomb. This could be a problem. I was not able to have this number set as high in Atlas as I was in GremCit, MavenCit, or DragCit. I was able to set it to 200, with those. With Atlas, I had to stay under 100. Stacker seemed to adversely affect this, too. It didn't cause much of a problem, when I finetuned it. I wasn't sharing more than about 5o rooms, so I could allocate enough slots to cover the 50 room files during networking, and none of my directory rooms had tons of stuff in them. I would have liked to have been able to allocate more slots, though.

Now I'm confused. I'm running ATlas and I have the MAXFILES set at 200, and everything seems to work fine. In fact, I'm confused why none of you (except Striker and myself) have been able to really get Atlas to work correctly...

Well, thanks for the info, Muke, but I couldn't even accept callers. I don't think that had anything to do with #MAXFILES. Cheetah: This room is for sysops to discuss the state of the network and to let each other know about problem with their boards and/or users. If you are not a sysop (i.e. have your OWN board), you should not have access to this room.

#2294 55 Thu Feb 20 04:49:30 1992 [I'm] Night Tracker [A twitted user] @ Nightfall, Day Island, Tacoma, WA
okay, I'm trying out Atlas again, and It seems to be working now. Although I am still having trouble after it networks, and tries to incorperate the Boards that are not in the route.cit file, and then It crashes, and I got a warning from Qemm (my memory manager). Then I added them to my route.cit manually and it seems to be working now.

I'm just about to call Love Pretty Colors and download the bug fix version. It'll be available on my board.
#2293 55 Thu Feb 20 20:30:45 1992 Kaptain K Mart @ YOUR MOM!, Tacoma!!!!!!!!!, Fuckin' Washington!!!!
Try netting with a board that has nodes that aren't part of your cron file. A couple of BBSes worked fine but when I called out to Zuke's it would find new nodes and edit my nodes.cit file and bomb. I will play around with the maxfiles things though.
#3220 55 Fri Feb 21 01:58:09 1992 [I'm] Night Tracker [A twitted user] @ Nightfall, Day Island, Tacoma, WA
I got it! There is a bug in the new Atlas. It's in the same place as the other one. Except you won't have any problems unless you use Qemm. I use it, and when it's installed It crashes. That's how I lost my message base. Other than That, I like this Cit the best, I would like CenCit, but it's TOO different than the other cits.
#3221 55 Fri Feb 21 02:12:23 1992 [I'm] Night Tracker [A twitted user] @ Nightfall, Day Island, Tacoma, WA
Another thing that Atlas dosen't work with is a disk cache. Specifically Ncache from Norton Utilities.

#3225 55 Sat Feb 22 01:27:28 1992 Gravity @ The Come Sail Away BBS, Fort Lewis, USA/WA/PIERCE
The only problem that I've had with Atlas is that it keeps on giving THE WRONG NUMBER (a former BBS) aliases in the ROUTE.CIT file. I've got about 15 entries in it for The Wrong Number. The same alias every time. However, I've been running Atlas for a while now, and it seems to work fine with the netting for me. No crashing or anything. I don't know what the deal is, save that I guess K Mart and Night Tracker aren't special... :)
#3224 55 Sat Feb 22 01:34:19 1992 [It's only] Kaptain K Mart @ The Blue Light Special, in Beautiful Tacoma, Washington
Well for me it always seems to lock up when it's updating the routes. Works fine when I net with a board with no new messages.
#3226 55 Sat Feb 22 02:24:02 1992 [It's only] Kaptain K Mart @ The Blue Light Special, in Beautiful Tacoma, Washington
I'm curious... How many MAXFILES do you have specified in your config.cit?
#3229 55 Sat Feb 22 02:25:23 1992 Gravity @ The Come Sail Away BBS, Fort Lewis, USA/WA/PIERCE

#3228 55 Sat Feb 22 09:11:38 1992 [Comodore] Starcrow @ 'Crow's Nest, Spanaway, WA/USA/EARTH
TNS: I get Atlas all set up, and running fine. Then someone calls in. It answers fine, but when it asks for initials, it just sits there. I can enter inits from the console, but it seems to be ignoring the modem once it connects. I've checked, double- triple- and quadruple-checked my config and modem strings, but for some reason it just doesn't like me at all....
#3231 55 Sat Feb 22 09:20:38 1992 [See] Night Tracker [Get pissed off at this BBS!] @ Nightfall, Day Island, Tacoma, WA
Why won't my board network private mail? When it's networking it says can't find path or file MAIL.???. My route.cit file seems to be correct, but I'm not sure.

#2674 55 Mon Feb 24 13:04:25 1992 TD @ The NeverMind, Disputed
OK. For people who I am going to be netting with: I mentioned some months back that I was gonna have my own little section of the "main" BBS netted rooms since I wouldn't have the disk space for 100+ new a day in many of the rooms. I talked to Thought and he said right now that the programme only takes up about 250K on a disk, which leave me about 600+ and then another blank disk of 865K. Assuming I set up a big enough message base, I could actually handle the LOTS of messies, so I'll most likely be netting the big rooms then (but maybe still have a few small ones just to keep things slow on my system). Will fill ya in on details again in about another month or so.

ok, I'm now networking Sysop and Meta/Magic rooms with Shades. Soon, hopefully, I will be netting with Mem. Now, is there anyone else who wouldn't mind netting a few rooms with me? Max of 20 rooms per board, due to limits on my side. I would like to net some fun rooms like: Pillow Fight, Food, Fight, Pubs & Bars, Jokes, etc. Things that are light hearted and fun! I can be reached here or through Shades. Zip : AL I would like about four or five net partners. Think of me as an alternate route for your rooms.

Fred: Your board has not been netting successfully with me lately: I get "No '...' room on remote" messages for all the rooms we exchange. I've sent you email (from another board), but pethaps it's not getting through. Any idea what the problem could be?

If you are having problems running Atlas, please upload a ZIP of your *.CIT files to Love Pretty Colors (525-3683), including a description of the problem (if you're just having the problem with the autorouter locking up, don't bother. I'm working on that.)
#3234 55 Wed Feb 26 06:48:05 1992 Fred @ Fantasia UnLtd., North Seattle Hell
Livia, I don't carry this room on the toy, so I just noticed your message. I think that your board may be the one that's been calling mine and not getting past the 'enter your initials:' prompt successfully. Turn debug on next time you net, ok? (the toy does carry WAN Admin, BTW).

Perhaps it would be smart to make a room for the discussion of the Atlas Citadel...that way Angela Davis wouldn't have to sort through here for your comments and we all wouldn't have to sort through here for what is supposed to be here....whatcha think?
