Linda E. Wacker-Dockter, 84, Bismarck, died June 4, 2002, at a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Stephen Wisthoff officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Boelter-Eastgate Funeral Service, 200 W. Turnpike Ave., Bismarck, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Linda Wacker was born Nov. 9, 1917, in Denhoff, the daughter of Jacob K. and Magdalena (Hoehn) Wacker. She was raised in Denhoff and graduated from Denhoff High School on May 31, 1936. Linda attended Interstate Business College in Fargo in the summer of 1937, and then attended Capitol Commercial College in Bismarck in 1938.
She was a school teacher in Sheridan County from 1936 to 1941, also teaching one year in McLean County. She lived in Chicago, Ill., from May 1941 to February 1946, working for the Pullman Co. in the claims and refund department. In Chicago, Linda met her husband, Walter Dockter. They were married at 2:30 p.m. on June 9, 1946, at the Baptist Parsonage in McClusky.
Linda and Walter had two sons. Robert James Dockter was born at the St. Alexius hospital in Bismarck on March 17, 1948, and Richard Dennis Dockter was born at Turtle Lake Hospital on July 3, 1953. They lived on a farm in McLean County from 1952 to 1962. Linda moved to Bismarck on Sept. 3, 1962, and Walter joined them on Oct. 8, 1962, after the farm auction sale.
She worked at the J.C. Penney Co. Store in downtown Bismarck from 1963 to 1965. She worked for the State Laboratories Department from May 1, 1965, to May 15, 1969, then transferred to the State Highway Department on May 15, 1969, and retired from there on April 1, 1981.
Linda was baptized on Palm Sunday, April 13, 1969, by immersion by the Rev. Stanley Malmgren and joined the First Baptist Church the same year.
She is survived by her husband, Walter, Bismarck; her two sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert Dockter, Minot, and Richard and Twila Dockter, Pierre, S.D.; her four grandchildren; and her two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Willis Wacker; and three sisters, Kari Reiswig, Bertha Brown and Frieda Malmin.
